Gynecomastia refers to unnatural growth or enlargement of male breasts. Although this phenomenon occurs commonly among pubescent boys, it does not prolong more than a few months. It is considered as a disorder if the individuals continue to suffer from it for a long period of time. Although Gynecomastia is usually caused due to obesity or old age, it may afflict any individual at any point of time. Commonly, natural Gynecomastia occurs among females and is very rarely observed among males. However, such natural enlargement of breasts is observed among feminized men, often known as pseudo-hermaphrodites. Apart from puberty, Gynecomastia also develops naturally among obese men or individuals who are overweight. As age increases, there is a natural decline in the amount of testosterone as against the quantity of estrogen. The hormones testosterone and estrogen are responsible for the development of sexual characteristics among men and women. Thus, a decline is the production of testosterone affects the overall physical traits causing the rise of natural Gynecomastia.
